Bill Hellriegel received his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Arizona, where he also earned an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language. Bill has worked in the field of language education for more than 20 years, in both teaching and administrative capacities, having spent his first 8 years working in Spain and in Japan. He has also worked for long periods at the University of California and the University of Minnesota. Bill has published both articles and book reviews, and has given numerous presentations, at professional conferences in the U.S. and around the world. He is fluent in the Spanish and Japanese languages, and also has some proficiency in both German and Portuguese. Bill's professional interests include keys to teacher effectiveness and student success in the classroom, as well as factors that determine student choice of school. He loves to spend time with his wife and children, traveling, doing sports, and watching movies.

Elisa Hunt received her B.A. in Speech Language Pathology from Indiana University and M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Ohio University. She has 17 years of teaching and administrative experience in programs in the U.S. and overseas. From the tropics to the desert to the tundra, she has worked at a variety of institutions, including North Dakota State University, Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Dubai Women’s College, and Horlivka State Pedagogical Institute in Ukraine.

Elisa served as an English Language Fellow on a grant from the U.S. Department State in eastern Ukraine. She has presented at multiple international conferences, including TESOL, TESOL-Ukraine, and numerous conferences in the United Arab Emirates. Her professional interests focus mainly on second language literacy issues: spelling, miscue analysis, and writing transfer. In the classroom, she enjoys developing games and activities. Her hobbies include traveling (28 countries so far) and spending time with her family.

Jane Meuth received her B.S., M.S. and PhD degrees in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Jane has been with the Southern Illinois University system for over 20 years. She previously served in a clerical capacity for an Illinois Minority Graduate Fellowship Program for 8 years and as Administrator for 9 years.

Paige joined CESL family in Fall 2012. She is a Southern Illinois native and prior to CESL she worked in banking and human resources. She enjoys working with people, especially the international student population. She has two children and two adorable grandsons.

Jennifer joined the CESL staff in August 2013. She received her B.S. in Workforce Education and Development from SIU. Prior to CESL, Jennifer worked for 8 years as an international advisor with the Center for International Education. She is originally from Des Moines, Iowa but has called Carbondale her home for most of her adult life. She lives in Carbondale with her husband Aspen, and her two sons, Connor and Grady. In their free time they enjoy traveling, and trying new international cuisine.

Lilia Angel-Post join the CESL family as the new admission officer in January 2015.   Lili was born and raised in Colombia (hablo español) but has called the United States her home since 1999.  Although she received a B.A. in Architecture from SIUC, international education has been her true passion since her college years when she was a student worker for 4 years at the Center for International Education.  After graduating from SIUC, she moved to Chicago and then Phoenix but Lili and her husband (also an SIU architecture graduated) decided to come back to Southern Illinois to build a house near the Shawnee Forest, raise their daughter, and enjoy all the advantages of living in Carbondale, a small American town with an multicultural heart.

Julie Buenker became part of the CESL program in July 2016.  She has worked for SIUC for 3 years, previously with Student Employment Services.  She is originally from the Effingham area, where she worked in banking for 10 years.   Julie enjoys traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Jeremy earned his PhD in Teaching & Learning (Foreign Language & ESL Education) at the University of Iowa in 2014. Inspired from his teaching experiences in Japan, South Korea, and Russia, his research interests include the cultural and professional learning of English language teachers. Along with his passion for English language teaching, he brings his expertise in instructional systems design and research-informed pedagogy to help assess and develop CESL’s curriculum. Organizing, developing, and participating in professional learning communities and networks are what Jeremy enjoys most about his work, and he hopes that the results of these collaborative efforts improve the English language learning experience for many students at and beyond CESL. In his free time, Jeremy likes to explore the national and state parks of Southern Illinois and the Ohio River Valley with his wife and daughter.
