Bill Hellriegel received his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Arizona, where he also earned an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language. He has worked in the field of language education for 25 years in both teaching and administrative capacities, and he has experience in both the public and private sectors. Bill spent the first 8 years of his career outside the U.S, working 2 years in Spain and 6 years in Japan. After returning to the U.S, he spent a number of years at the University of California and then at the University of Minnesota. He has published and presented extensively. Bill is fluent in Spanish and in Japanese, and he also has proficiency in both German and Portuguese. His research interests include teacher effectiveness, student success, and student choice of school. Bill loves spending time with his family, exercising, reading, and traveling. He became CESL's Director in January 2017.

Elisa Hunt received her B.A. in Speech Language Pathology from Indiana University and M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Ohio University. She has 17 years of teaching and administrative experience in programs in the U.S. and overseas. From the tropics to the desert to the tundra, she has worked at a variety of institutions, including North Dakota State University, Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Dubai Women’s College, and Horlivka State Pedagogical Institute in Ukraine.
Elisa served as an English Language Fellow on a grant from the U.S. Department State in eastern Ukraine. She has presented at multiple international conferences, including TESOL, TESOL-Ukraine, and numerous conferences in the United Arab Emirates. Her professional interests focus mainly on second language literacy issues: spelling, miscue analysis, and writing transfer. In the classroom, she enjoys developing games and activities. Her hobbies include traveling (28 countries so far) and spending time with her family.
Tristen Lovekamp received her B.A. in International Studies from SIU in 2016 with minors in Political Science and German. She will graduate this May with her M.A. in Public Administration. She joined CESL as a student worker in 2013 and has been the Activities and Conversation Partners Program Coordinator since May 2016. Tristen enjoys working with international students and hopes to work with a nonprofit after graduation that helps refugees and recent immigrants navigate life in the United States.
Special Groups Coordinator
Alexander received his B.A. Anthropology from SIU and is now a Master of Science Education candidate in the Higher Education Program at SIU. In the Summer of 2017, Alex spent 8 weeks doing Archaeology at the historic French Fort Kaskaskia in Chester, Illinois where the archaeology team disproved what was thought about the Fort. In his free time, he loves to explore the many historically rich sites and nature in Southern Illinois.

Lilia Angel-Post join the CESL family as the new admission officer in January 2015. Lili was born and raised in Colombia (hablo español) but has called the United States her home since 1999. Although she received a B.A. in Architecture from SIUC, international education has been her true passion since her college years when she was a student worker for 4 years at the Center for International Education. After graduating from SIUC, she moved to Chicago and then Phoenix but Lili and her husband (also an SIU architecture graduated) decided to come back to Southern Illinois to build a house near the Shawnee Forest, raise their daughter, and enjoy all the advantages of living in Carbondale, a small American town with an multicultural heart.
Betty Rodgers joined the CESL program July 2017. Betty earned her B.S. degree in 2005. She enjoys spending free time with family, friends, and her animal pets. Her hobbies are sewing, gardening, and crafts.
Jaleesa Short is from St. Louis, Missouri, and attended all 4 years as an undergraduate at SIU where she received her B.S, in Accounting in May 2017. She is continuing her education through the MAcc Program at SIU. In her free time, she enjoys exercising, spending time with friends and family, and trying new things.

Prithvi Srigiri is from Hyderabad, India and received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in May 2016. He is pursuing his masters at SIU. He is our Social Media and Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant who joined CESL in May 2017. He has worked at Amazon Development Center before coming to the US and has experience in Risk Management. He loves food, so if we are missing any food from the office it would be definitely because of him.

Caprice Riley is from Chicago, Illinois and received her B.S. in Healthcare Management August 2011 at SIUC. She has spent her career working for a specialty home infusion company in Nashville, TN. Caprice recently returned to SIUC to fulfill her passion for mental health and obtain her Master of Social Work. She is currently completing her graduate level internship at Counseling and Psychological Services as a Counselor in Residence. She counsels SIUC students who live in University Housing on campus. In her free time she enjoys writing, traveling, spending time with family and friends.
